PERCUSSION / DRUM LESSONS SEBASTIAN HART

Brief Bio: link to>>About (full biography)
Hello my name is Sebastian Hart, I have been teaching percussion & drum set lessons since 2003. I am a graduate from CSU East Bay in History, and am continuing studies at Ohlone in pursuit of a degree in music composition and studio production. I played in my middle, high school, and both college’s bands (includes ensembles, marching, concert, jazz, etc). I also studied privately at Nasatir School of Percussion for 7 years, where I learned a large amount of pedagogy on the subject during my last couple years taking lessons. I have been gigging and recording music in numerous local groups since 2001. All of my music endeavors have been largely varied, and I enjoy all aspects and styles of music including teaching. I studied how to play congas, bongos, mallets, recording, producing, stick twirling, and numerous other musical instruments and courses in a variety of fields. I am currently looking for students to expand my student base to pay for college, while my band and I continue to pursue growth with our small production company for ourselves and friends.

Lesson Information:
I play and teach virtually every style of music on a variety of instruments. All of my lessons are customized to meet the needs and abilities of my students including working on my students’ own pieces or school music. Upon arrival you will receive a lesson folder, which you will bring, every week so I can give you new material (drum related articles or announcements, and your handwritten lessons from me). This is very important because as you progress through your musical career you should carry this with you, and continue to add to it and keep it organized (by year, subject, or teachers) for a host of useful reasons. I also teach soloing, improvisation, comping, etc, and stage presence (i.e. as much stick twirling as you could possibly ever want to learn if the student wishes). I truly enjoy teaching, and feel it keeps me on my musical toes. Over the years I’ve tried to provide my students with continually more services; examples vary from a growing collection of resources and texts, additional information through e-mails between all my students, or once in a while I bringing in an outside musician like a bassist to lessons. This teaches some of the most import aspects of playing music, by allowing all my students to work on playing with people. I encourage students to bring in some of their own equipment to teach maintenance, tuning, and a whole bunch of other cool tricks to make your drums sound the way you want. I truly enjoy working with all age groups, and skill levels (true passion from a student is the only thing that matters). Parents are always welcome to sit in on any of their child’s lessons.

Clinics / Group Lessons:
I am available for clinics, school courses, band, or other group lessons. I have no trouble catering to a theme or topic for demonstration or discussion. I have experience teaching to classes, and enjoy leading percussion ensembles. For group lessons, clinics, etc. please contact me with more info and we’ll work from there!

Location Details:
My private studio is located in a residential neighborhood off of Alvarado/Fremont Blvd & 880 in Union City. The Studio houses a plethora of different instruments and equipment for full bands to record. And there will always be additional access to electric drums, conga’s, bongo’s, bells, electric piano, and an array of other percussion instruments on which to learn.

Pricing:
Rates are $20.00 per half hour or $35.00 for a full hour (strongly recommended). I do not charge for sheet music, but do encourage the purchase of basic equipment, and method books as you progress.
